With Automounter, my shares stay mounted (or very quickly remount upon waking the Windows) regardless of how long the Windows and/or the drives on the NAS have been asleep. Appears to be a PC problem with SMB shares. An automounter is any program or software facility which automatically mounts filesystems in response to access operations by user programs. Disconnecting from the share (in Finder) would similarly hang. Before installing Automounter, at least one of the mounts (but generally not all 3) would randomly become unresponsive after some period of sleep it would still appear in Finder, but the folder would appear to be empty, and if an application tried to access it (Time PC, iTunes, or Carbon Copy Cloner, depending on the share), the application would go into an unrecoverable hang (Windows would hang during attempted force quit and restart, requiring a hard reset). Apples AppleTV OS (thanks to DiaboliKs Front Row Replacement package). I develop an app which presents a list of network shares to a the user, and allows them to selectively mount them. Using the mount command requires that the mount point exists first, so youre going to have to sudo to create that folder for the mount point. The automounter maps can potentially be huge, so we might need to optimize the download task in later versions. Running Mojave on my Windows, I use several SMB3 shares on my Synology NAS that need to stay mounted for periodic access, one is for Time PC, one has my iTunes database, and one is used for backups (running Mojave on my Windows). that with macOS 10.12, permissions to create a folder inside /Volumes require root access. In the first version, SSSD should just schedule a periodic task to download automounter data similar to how user/group enumeration task is scheduled.
